Specialist Leaders in Education (SLEs)

Specialist Leaders in Education

As a Teaching School Alliance, we will continue to appoint a number of SLEs when required, in line with CASL, All North Teaching Schools, Cumbrian Teaching Schools and the Teaching School Council

  • SLEs are outstanding Middle and Senior Leaders, in positions below the Headteacher, with at least two years’ leadership experience (both in teaching and support roles). They have a particular area of expertise such as a subject, early years, behaviour or school business management and a successful track record of School Improvement.
  • SLEs support leaders in other schools.
  • The SLE role is about developing other Middle and Senior Leaders so that they have the skills to lead their own teams and improve practice in their own schools (predicated on a coaching model).
  • SLEs can come from any school or Academy, and whilst the individual must be outstanding, his or her school does not have to be.

For further advice and support please contact Shaun Monaghan, Director of WCTSA

What is School Direct?

School Direct is a direct route into teaching, where successful applicants can follow a PGCE (with QTS) course. The main difference to the traditional PGCE course is that you will do a significant amount of your training within a school.
